Vigoleno’s origins are rooted in the Roman era: the name comes from the Latin Vicus Lyaeo, a place consecrated to Bacchus because of its exquisite wines. In 1132, the name Vigoleno is cited in documents for the first time. In 1141 this small fortress obtained the right to be defended by the commune of Piacenza.
