Starting as a trading port, Hong-Kong became a crown colony of the United Kingdom in 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to China in 1997. Apart for foreign affairs and defence, it enjoys high degree of autonomy in all areas. Hong-Kong is known for its skyline, natural setting, identity as a cosmopolitan centre where the East meets the West, cuisine, cinema, music and traditions.
